“Art Observer”“ It is obvious when one looks at the footage that Yeager
has captured you have to begin to not only suspect the fake paintings that are sold, but also wonder about the responsibilty
of the press who only continued to promote The Highwaymen shows with no real sense of accuracy of the authenticity of the
art.

Yeager delves into Ft. Pierce looking for the highwaymen as he documents his earnest desire to paint with the highwaymen.
When he discovers Livingston Roberts at his home we see many of the artist gathered together, including a rare scene with
a staged but sincere reunion with Jimmy Stovall. The artist talk on camera about the old days, and Yeager instead of choosing
to edit the scenes lets the moments be so we can get a perspective of a times that have now passed. Livingston passed away
sevral years ago, and we see Yeager and Livingston painting together as Yeager dreamed the day would happen.
There
are precoius moments where Yeager tries to persuade Rodney Demps to paint again. Yeager discovers Rodney wants a new truck
so he purchases paints, brushes, massonite boards and recreates a scene that is reminissent of Alfred Hair painting his art
with a photo of a Cadillac tacked up close by for his inspiration to make money. Yeager returns days later to discover the
artist has disappeared and left the state. Yeager returns again and again to the neighborhood trying to make friends, many
are sceptical but it is Livingston who senses Billy’s true desire to become an artist and we as an audience watch as
Billy brings his guitars, his first paintings, and convinces Livingston to let him paint. Yeager devoted a year to the project
driving all the way from Miami to Ft. Pierce 5 days a week.
If one was to debate whether Yeager is an expert or not, and about the fakes and forgeries, this footage will prove
that Yeager at least goes a bit further than just the surface and reveals there is so much more to The Highwaymen than what
is previously known.” Dane PauleThis documentary captures the only existing rare footage of Livingston Roberts painting
in his backyard with musician / filmmaker and painter Billy Yeager. Yeager not only discovers where the Highwaymen
gather to paint, but captures rare moments with artist Charles Walker, Johnny Daniels, Jimmy Stovall and Livingston all gathered
together talking about the old days, Alfred Hair, Al Black, and the lost Freddie paintings.Yeager interviews Alfred Hairs
family and many who knew Backus and Alfred personally. The Highwaymen were mostly self-taught painters who painted on inexpensive
Upson board. They packed these paintings into the trunks of their cars and sold them door-to-door throughout the south-eastern
coast of Florida. Paintings by the Florida Highwaymen are prized by collectors today. The name refers to African American
artists, mostly from the Fort Pierce area, who painted landscapes and made a living selling them, door to door, to businesses
and individuals throughout the state from the mid-1950s through the 1980s. They also were peddled from the trunks of their
cars.Today their 100,000 plus paintings have gathered significant interest and have become quite collectible. At auctions
these particular painters works have been recognized with high prices. In recent years there has been many forged paintings
sold on eBay and at many galleries. Because there are over 26 artists and they signed their names scratched with a nail into
the paintings that were still wet makes it easy to purchase similar Florida scene paintings and forge the artists names who
only knew how to print. In 2001 Billy Yeager became the only person to become one of the group painting alongside artist Livingston
Roberts who shows Billy not only how to paint but how to recognize authentic paintings. Yeager shows intricate detail Livingston
Roberts setting up his canvass in the morning where the 2 of them begin to work on a painting together. Next he finds Rodney
Demps living in a empty house confined to seclusion; paranoid, and purchases massonite boards and takes Rodney to the beach
to paint for the first time in 25 years. He discovers the lost Highwaymen “ Jimmy Stovall” and brings him to Livingston
Roberts backyard both who haven’t seen each other in 25 years, as Livingston states on tape, “there’s a
real highwaymen, he was here form the beginning”. Yeager was also one of the only people allowed to visit Al Black
in Tomoka State prison where Al tells Yeager about the forgeries and where he drove to and where many of the paintings can
be discovered. Yeager finds 1000’s of paintings locked in an abandoned house where many Hairs, and Livingston Roberts
paintings are still left intact in pristine condition.
After a states attorney investigation of fraud and forged paintigs sold on E- Bay Yeager was named the official Highwaymen
Curator because of unscrupulous dealers taking advantage of buyers. Yeager was featured on Fox News which is also included
in the documentary. Yeager has documented 100's of hours of footage of the Highwaymen and has the only existing footage
of Harold Newton and Livingston Roberts. Yeager's documentary also reveals other Highwaymen that were not included into the
group even though they have been regarded as original Highwaymen by Harold Newton and Livingston Roberts themselves. Yeager
was also the only white person to be allowed to become an official member of the Highwaymen by “Castro” himself
where Yeager shows the only painting ever created by 2 Highwaymen working together. Yeager and Castro. This is a must for
any collector.Florida highwaymenFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Florida Highwaymen were a group of African-American
landscape painters who were influenced by renowned Florida landscape artist A.E. Backus during the 1950s-60s (although only
Alfred Hair was a formal student of Backus). His influence extended to the twenty-six artists who have been given the name
"The Highwaymen." Some in the formal art world have given this group and its followers the name "Indian River School," but
they are most well-known as The Highwaymen. Not known as "highwaymen" in their heyday, the name was bestowed by Florida art
collector and museum curator, Jim Fitch, in a 1995 article.1 StyleThe Highwaymen were mostly self-taught painters. Excluded
from the traditional world of art shows and galleries, the Highwaymen painted on inexpensive Upson board and framed their
paintings with crown molding (brushed with gold or silver paint to "antique" them). They packed these paintings into the trunks
of their cars and sold them door-to-door throughout the south-eastern coast of Florida. Sometimes the paintings were stacked
before the oil was dry. One can make out the imprint of the base of the next frame on a few of the paintings.Paintings by
the Florida Highwaymen are prized by collectors today, but their story is about much more than art.[citation needed] The name
refers to African American artists, mostly from the Fort Pierce area, who painted landscapes and made a living selling them,
door to door, to businesses and individuals throughout the state from the mid-1950s through the 1980s. They also were peddled
from the trunks of their cars along the eastern coastal roads (A1A and I-95). Today their 100,000 plus paintings have gathered
significant interest and have become quite collectible. At auctions these particular painters works have been recognized with
high prices. Authentic original paintings by the more talented artists in the group will easily bring in several thousand
dollars. MembershipIt was not a formal movement and represented no “official” group, yet The Highwaymen thrived
as artists and entrepreneurs through their sheer determination to succeed[citation needed] as painters and not as laborers
in citrus groves, their expected social role. The works are also classified as "Outsider Art". They honed techniques to rapidly
produce their paintings and developed strategies to sell and market their artwork outside of the formal world of art galleries
and exhibitions. Their story is one of African Americans who carved out unique economic opportunities despite the social conditions
of the Jim Crow South. In 2000, twenty six artists were identified as Highwaymen.2 These artists were inducted into the
Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2004 as the Highwaymen and include: Curtis Arnett, Hezekiah Baker, Al “Blood”
Black, brothers Ellis and George Buckner, Robert Butler, Mary Ann Carroll (the only woman in the group), brothers Johnny and
Willie Daniels, Rodney Demps, James Gibson, Alfred Hair, Issac Knight, Robert Lewis, John Maynor, Roy McLendon, Alfonso “Pancho”
Moran, brothers Harold and Lemuel and Sam Newton, Willie Reagan, Livingston “Castro” Roberts, Cornell “Pete”
Smith, Charles Walker, Sylvester Wells, and Charles “Chico” Wheeler. Of these twenty six, nine are considered
"original" (or the earliest) Highwaymen: Harold Newton, Alfred Hair, Roy McLendon, James Gibson, Livingston Roberts, Mary
Ann Carroll, Sam Newton, Willie Daniels, and Al Black.3 As of April 2008 seven are deceased, both Buckners, Hair, Harold Newton,
A.Moran, L.Roberts and most recently, Hezakiah Baker. Most of the living artists are active and aggressively marketing their
newer works. Authentic ArtIn recent years there has been many forged paintings sold on eBay and at many galleries. Because
there are over 26 artists and they signed their names scratched with a nail into the paintings that were still wet makes it
easy to purchase similar Florida scene paintings and forge the artists names who only knew how to print. In 2003 Billy Yeager
named himself the official Highwaymen Curator because of unscrupulous dealers taking advantage of buyers. Yeager has documented
100's of hours of footage of the Highwaymen and has the only existing footage of Harold Newton and Livingston Roberts. Yeager's
documentary also reveals other Highwaymen that were not included into the group even though they have been regarded as original
Highwaymen by Harold Newton and Livingston Roberts themselves.

WE HAVE RECIEVED SO MANY LETTERS WITH CONCERNS YET THERE IS
NOTHING MORE THAT I CAN DO THEN TO TRY THIS ONCE AGAIN. I WANT EVERYONE TO SEE THAT I HAVE TAKEN THE TIME TO LET THE PRESS
KNOW ABOUT THIS AND THE CASE SURROUNDING THE JIMMY STOVALL INCIDENT. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR NOW. I HAVE KEPT THIS INFORMATION
TO MYSELF UNTIL NOW. I WAS TOLD BY JIMMY STOVALL THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE GROUP BECAUSE OF MY AFILIATION WIT
HIM, AND THAT HE WOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED INTO THE GROUP, AND YET ALL I HAVE DONE WAS TO MAKE FREINDS AND PAINT WITH THE HIGHWAYMEN
WHICH YOU WILL SEE IN MY FILM. THIS IS ABOUT MONEY FOLKS, FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL LOOK AT THOSE WHO CONTROL THIS MESS, THEY
ARE SO CONVINCING THE PRESS LOOKS THE OTHER WAY. WELL HERE IS THE LETTER AND THE LIST OF CONTACTS, YOU CAN WRITE THE MANAGING
EDITOR YOURSELVES AND ASK THEM WHY THEY TURN A BLIND EYE.
As of today this letter is being sent to all the editors
and people who have covered the story of the Highwaymen. The replies and non replies are being posted on the Highwaymen site
and Highwaymen blog that is now the fastest growing search on the internet about the Highwaymen. Check to see if your name
is included.
If it is then the public will see that your name and publication has not only NOT DONE ITS JOB but has
also contributed to thousands of people being ripped off thousands of dollars. We will post the hundreds of letters coming
in also of people asking
“Where was the press in all of this for 5 years? I have been ripped off and it was even
posted on E-Bay about the warnings, why has noone contacted you? Whats going on? I paid 3500.00 for my Harold Newton and
now I need to know if it is worth nothing or not even an original, can you help me? Claire Goldstein.
The Florida Highwaymen
became so popular that 3 years ago over 250 paintings a day were being sold on E-Bay some as much as 4000.00 to 10,000.00. Now
there are only 47 as this date. Why? Because of one persons posting that revealed the forgeries and fakes that were being
sold on line. The warnings were not taken seriously at first nor was their letters to editors about the news. Instead the
press continued to write about the paintings and in essence contributed to the public being ripped off. Now there is a
New film about the Highwaymen which reveals many things about the artist as well as the dealers and those who control the
market and money making cash flow of the Highwaymen. Why would one artist be completely ostracized from the Highwaymen
, not by the other artists mind you, but by the experts who decide who will and who will not be included in the group? Why
is an artist called Jimmy Stovall seen in a reunion with Livingston Roberts one of the 5 inducted into the Artist Hall of
Fame being recognized by one the known and now famous Highwaymen talking on camera of the old days from 30 years ago, yet
being denied his name attached to the Highwaymen? Is there something going on with forgeries and fakes that only one person
knows about that has gone where no other person has gone and found out vital information that the press themselves wont investigate? Why
doesn’t the press even look at the footage that has been available now for 6 years? Is it because it is safer to
keep a well knit story the way it is told and not ruffle the feathers and not exspose those who are making money and selling
bogus paintings that nobody else has the credibility to authenticate? 1 Year ago Yeager kept a record of every News paper
and press contact that he has sent this information to, it was never considered or looked at or a phone call returned, now
Yeager will begin on his blog the posting of these e-mails and letters to the press so the public is able to see for themselves
the irresponsibility of the press, and also watch the video trailer of Yeagers startling evidence of many topics that may
have many wondering Why doesn’t the press or anyone look at a story where 26 artists’, have painted, where
anyone can make a forgery, who is there to protect the buyers? Yeagers E-Bay posting in essence cleaned house, the scammers
and thieves took off running from 250 paintings being sold on E –bay to 47 now thanks to someone who has never made
a dime on the story of the Highwaymen, only to be discarded by the experts, the press, so that the public can be continued
to be lied to, and one man Jimmy Stovall is not allowed to make a living or be included into the group because Yeagers new
film shows that the expert’s and scammers are only in this for the money. Yeager has not only spent time and dedicated
1 year of his life to filming the Highwaymen, but he is also the only person that was accepted and allowed to paint with the
artist. The film is available on his web-site. http://www.jesusofmalibu.com/the_highwaymen.html
A Very rare Livingston Roberts painting known as The Freddie paintings was discovered in an un-known
location in North Miami found through a description given to filmmaker Billy Yeager is his New Film " The Highwaymen" The
other side of the road". In the film Livingston shows Yeager a map and explains where many of the lost Freddie paintings could
be. The painting that was found is to be auctioned at Christys Auction in New York City and all proceeds will go to the Make
a wish foundation.
